To provide each child with every opportunity to meet his or her potential, First Step Child Care Center is committed to presenting a curriculum based on rich and stimulating experiences, presented through effective strategies and teaching methods. We assess each child on a regular basis to know what skills are developing and how we can structure our lessons to meet individual and group needs.
We also offer a private Kindergarten program for children who meet our registration requirements. This program meets, and in many cases exceeds State Kindergarten standards.
We are proud to be a part of Illinois’ Preschool for All program. Preschool for All is a high-quality preschool Early Childhood Education program for 3 to 5-year-olds. This program is available to parents at no additional cost. All children are eligible if they are enrolled in the daycare center. Children in Community Connections are enrolled based on certain risk factors, with “at-risk” children receiving first priority.
Our staff has received training in order to formally assess your child within three months of enrollment in First Step, and then on a yearly basis. We want to ensure that every child is receiving the right amount of attention and encouragement to grow, and is this is why we assess our students.
We hold Parent-Teacher Conferences twice a year in the fall and in the spring of each year. This is a time for you and your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s development both in the classroom and at home. Mutual sharing is crucial to maintain continuity between the care given at home and at school, and we encourage parents to meet with teachers to discuss how their child is doing with us.
We are accredited by the National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This is an honor that is awarded to only the very best child care centers around the country who achieve the high mark of quality in early childhood education that NAEYC stands for. We take pride in our accreditation and in our commitment to providing the best in childcare and education.Discipline Policy
The purpose of our discipline program is to first provide a healthy, safe environment where children will grow and learn. Additionally, appropriate life-long behavior skills will enable the child to function successfully in our society. Children are be encouraged to solve their own conflicts, when possible. Children are never disciplined for toilet accidents, spilling milk, food, paint, etc. We do not subscribe to corporal punishment, abusive or profane language towards children, any form of public humiliation (including time-outs, scolding, or isolation from the group) or any form of emotional abuse.
